A cyber system or called as a cyber- physical system (CPS) is a mechanism that is controlled or surveilled by computer based algorithms which are tightly integrated with the internet and its users. In this system, physical and software components are strongly interlaced and in that connection, each component is working on different spatial and temporal scales and interacting with each other in many ways that change with the context. The economic and communal potential of these cyber systems is very much greater than what has been realized and major investments are being made worldwide to develop these systems. This system is developed on the older but still very apt discipline of embedded systems.
Examples of cyber systems
- smart grid
- medical monitoring
- automatic pilot avionics etc.
This cyber physical system is also very much like internet of things (IOT), sharing the same basic architecture, nonetheless, CPS presents a higher combination and coordination between physical and computational elements.
Cyber Threats in Pakistan
Pakistan witnessed the most recent cyber-attack on the banking information due to which many people have lost millions of rupees by online transfer of money from one account to the other. This crime caused people a lot. Moreover, the development and growing use of mobile applications has totally changed the way of life and is taking over, almost everything. The IT business has grown rapidly as the software development has produced numerous millionaires.
The cyber technology moves around the internet system which involves the flow of information in cell phones, computers and disturbed human rights and pro-democracy activists through its over broad language against the freedom video game consoles etc. the internet plays a very vital role in our lives today as even the car we drive is a part of cyber system as it now has an access to the internet.
As far as the precautionary measures and resulting actions against the cyber-crime are considered, i would say that it was a bit ironical but the first Cyber-crime bill passed on August 11,2016 by Pakistan’s lower house, the National Assembly, as the prevention of Electronics crime Act 2016, is debatable in its terms.
This law also allowed the authorized officers to have the access to anyone’s computer and his/her personal information whenever needed during investigation. It also gives PTA, full authority to decide what is legal and illegal. The law stated that there will be 7 years of imprisonment sentence to those who will be planning, recruiting or funding terrorism attacks or online propaganda against the state.
Hence, the bill shows that it only had sections that provide Un-fair legal actions to the state handlers as nothing has been done for the protection of the private information of the individuals. Therefore, the systems are still un-secure unless they are protected through a foolproof security plan.
There is no law in Pakistan against those who break the firewalls to steal the data like a bank record or any confidential information. It is clearly a theft and its court case needs considerable digital evidence including the attempt to enter the database. It is therefore a need for Pakistan Parliament to bring in a new law on cyber security for the protection of legal and personal information of organizations and individuals.
